K2S INVITED TO REPRESENT FINLAND

K2S has been invited to represent Finland in the Scandinavian architecture exhibition arranged by Stockholm Furniture Fair. The exhibition is titled “What were they thinking?” and focuses on the design processes. K2S will present Villa Sarvilahti in the exhibition.

ELECTRICITY STATIONS OPENED

Two projects for Helsingin Energia have recently been completed: a switching station and an electrical substation. Both buildings are located in Pukinmäki in Northern Helsinki. The buildings will be inaugurated on the 5th of November.

HOTEL PAASITORNI

Today the plans for a new hotel in the monumental Paasitorni building in Helsinki have been officially revealed. The hotel will feature 170 rooms, part of which will be located in a new building on the courtyard. Construction is expected to start early 2010.

NEWLY DRAWN EXHIBITION

K2S is featured in the Newly Drawn exhibition in Kaapelitehdas, Helsinki on 9, 10 and 11 September. The exhibition is part of Open House Helsinki. Apart from showing works and projects, the exhibition presents the people behind some of the offices that have drawn attention in recent years.

FIRST TOURIST INFO KIOSK OPENED

The first kiosk for Helsinki City Tourist Information has been opened on the Kauppatori, in the very center of Helsinki. During the first three hours, over 500 people have already paid the information kiosk a visit.

K2S PROJECTS PUBLISHED IN 10x10 BOOK

Four projects by K2S have been published in the book 10x10_3, part of the acclaimed 10x10 series by Phaedon publishers. The book presents an overview of contemporary architecture and is available in bookstores around the world. K2S Architects is the only Finnish firm featured in this edition.

K2S WINS INTERNATIONAL HOSPITAL COMPETITION

K2S received the first prize in the second and final round of the international architecture competition for the design of a hospital in Espoo, Finland.

KAMPPI CHAPEL DESIGN APPROVED BY CITY PLANNING OFFICIALS

The detailed plan for a ecumenical chapel in Helsinki's central district of Kamppi has been approved by the city planning board of Helsinki. Completion of the project is expected at the end of 2011.

HONOURABLE PRIZE FOR EXPO PAVILLION DESIGN

K2S was awarded with a honourable prize for its proposal for the Finnish pavilion at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

K2S WINS CHIGAGO ATHENAEUM INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE AWARD

K2S has received the Chicago Atheneum International Architecture Award 2008 for the design of the ENTER upper secondary school in Sipoo, Finland. The project is the only project in Finland receiving this award in 2008.

Together with the other awarded projects, the ENTER school will be presented on exhibitions in Florence (SESV Santa Verdiana) and Athens (Contemporary Space Athens ).

EXHIBITIONS IN HELSINKI, LONDON, PARIS AND AUSTRIA

Various projects by K2S are currently on display in a number of exhibitions. The ENTER school is on display both at the Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki (until 28.09.2008), and the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris (until 07.09.2008).

In the fall, another exhibition on Finnish architecture will be shown in various locations in Austria and Germany, starting at Vienna University of Technology.

Until 20.08.2008, the ENTER school will be featured in an exhibition called Learning Environments, which is hosted by the Finnish Embassy in London as part of the London Festival of Architecture.

'HELMET' WINS AVIAPOLIS LANDMARK COMPETITION
